'George Michael was a complete genius', says 1975's Matty Healy at BRIT Awards 2017

Matty Healy of boyband The 1975 expressed his love for the late George Michael at this year's BRIT Awards.

"I think George Michael meant a lot to the world," he told us. "If you look at Wham! now, with retrospect, George Michael was a complete genius – a craftsman of pop music."

He went on to praise the late Prince and David Bowie, who both passed away in 2016. "Those three artists changed the way we spoke about sexuality in public."

"George Michael," Matty said,"doesn't fit any strict masculine roles. He changed the way that people perceive sexuality."

Matty went on to say that Prince "actively" influenced the 1975's music, and that the first two tracks on the band's new album were tributes to Prince and Bowie.

He believes that there should 'rightfully' be some tributes at the BRIT Awards 2017 to these three hugely influential artists.

We can't wait to find out!
