Netflix have announced the global release date for the eagerly awaited Stranger Things 2.

The date revealed on social media is earlier than previously thought after the 30-second teaser for the new season during the Super Bowl break revealed it to be 'Halloween'.

Fans of the retro TV series will be treated to the second installment of the award winning Netflix original series on the 27th October 2017.

Although not much has been revealed about the second season Netflix have said it will follow on directly from the first season. Set in 1984, Will Byers has escaped the Upside Down but the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab.

To accompany the release date announcement Netflix have revealed some artwork for the new season which shows the four young children on their bikes on the outskirts of Hawkins. As they look towards their home town the sky above them is a menacing red with a glint of a monster hiding in the clouds.
