Robbie Williams has opened up about his struggle with mental health in a recent interview. The iconic pop star described his battle as a "disease in my head that wants to kill me".

The former Take That star explained how sometimes he gets overwhelmed by the problems, but at other times he needs it to get on stage. He also revealed he has been close to death many times and compared his life to that of George Michael who sadly passed away on Christmas Day in 2016. Robbie went on to explain how George Michael's death made him reassess his own lifestyle.

The singer, who has been married to Ayda Field for seven years, has two children with his wife and has previously said that Ayda saved his life by keeping him on the straight and narrow.

Speaking to NME last year Robbie explained how society's view on mental health has changed over the years saying, "Back in the day, you didn’t know what’s going on with yourself; you just knew that you were living in your head and you didn’t understand what it was.

“You’d heard words that are called ‘depression’, but you didn’t equate that with what’s going on with you. There wasn’t anything really in the media to describe what I was going through or how I was feeling.”

Robbie is now on tour in Australia, having cancelled some of his shows last year due to ill health. In October 2017 the 'Candy' singer revealed more details about why he cancelled his shows, explaining in a video uploaded to YouTube that he was "recovering from an illness for the last five weeks" and this illness meant that he couldn't continue with his tour.

Last December the singer further explained what had happened saying he had been having problems breathing and was sent for some blood tests. When the results came back some abnormalities were found, including something on his brain that looked like blood.

The decision was then made to send him straight to intensive care where he spent seven days.

Thankfully Robbie is much better now, although this scare has resulted in a change in his lifestyle. He is now mostly vegan and does pilates and yoga every day, however he still has a "really big burger on a Sunday"!

Last year Robbie also released a brand new album called 'Under The Radar Volume 2'. This album is a follow-up to his 2014 album 'Under the Radar Volume 1' which featured b-sides and demos which had never been heard before.

Robbie is now continuing his 'The Heavy Entertainment Tour' in Australia.

And closer to home Robbie has just announced that he will be taking part in this year's SoccerAid game to be held at Old Trafford on Sunday 10th June 2018.
