It was the end of an era when Avicii performed his final few sets over the last weekend in August at Tennent’s Vital, Creamfields and Ushuaïa.

However taking a break from touring and performing is not the same as taking a break from music and Avicii has made it clear he will not be leaving music behind.

The world famous DJ made a statement on Instagram recently saying, "This sunday was my last show. But far from my last days in the world of music. Creating music is what makes me happy."

He went on to explain how he has met so many people and seen amazing places, so while it it might seem a strange decision, "for me this was the right one."

Avicii announced he would be retiring earlier this year through a statement on his website where he said, "I will be forever grateful to have experienced and accomplished all that I have with the help of the team around me and my beloved fans."

Over the past few years Avicii has had health problems resulting in him cancelling a number of shows, so while there was a lot of disappointment at his announcement it didn't come as a huge surprise.

While Avicii has said he will not be giving up music it isn't clear if he will continue to release music.

In the week since his last gig Avicii has posted a photo on Instagram "searching for epicness", hopefully he's found it!
