We aren't going to lie, there hasn't been much positive news to report on this year, but the BBC have managed to fill us with joy today by revealing there will be brand new episodes of hit comedy Gavin & Stacey... ONE DAY!

Every since THAT cliffhanger ending during the Christmas Day special last year, viewers of the show, which is written by Ruth Jones and James Corden, have been begging for more, but other than a few hints here and there we've been given no real evidence that the show will ever return.

That's until now....

As this year's Christmas TV schedule is announced, the BBC's Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore, has revealed there won't be any new episodes this year, but there will be in the future.

She said, "That wasn't something that was going to happen this year," before adding, "One day."

Check out which other TV shows we can't wait for the return of:

After the Christmas special on Christmas Day 2019, which saw Nessa actually get down on one knee and propose to Smithy, there was a few rumours about whether or not the show will return for more instalments.

Following the amazing reaction, the show's creators and stars, Smithy (James Corden), and Nessa (Ruth Jones), told Metro.co.uk, "It’s mind-blowing that so many people watched our show – we still can’t get our heads around it, what a massive compliment. We are indebted to the BBC for their incredible support but most importantly to those viewers for watching.

"We just hope one day we can let them know what Smithy said next."

However, James, who now lives out in America, seemed to ruin all of our hopes of a reunion in February when he said, "I'm being completely honest, there are no plans to do any more because a lot of it is about time and distance. I think Ruth and I, if we ever were going to do any, we approach it in the same manner we did the last one to try and just do it on our own and see if we felt we had something that wouldn't ruin it.

"Because it's all well and good people saying that they would like another one, and that is hugely flattering, but they only want one that doesn't tarnish it in any way. So we're going to really try our best to give it some thought at the least, but there is no plans - as it stands right now - to ever make another one."

So, with today's news, we've just got to sit and wait and hope the cast return to the famous Barry Island one day!
