EXCLUSIVE: Little Mix's Jade compares winning a BRIT to winning the Bake Off

Jade Thirlwall has compared taking victory in the Bake Off tent to winning a BRIT Award!
The Little Mix singer took the Star Baker title in this week’s episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer. She appeared alongside rapper KSI, comedian Katherine Ryan and presenter Stacey Dooley.
We caught up with the Little Mix star to chat about all things Bake Off and BRITS!
After some impressive baking, Jade was victorious and took home the coveted Bake Off apron although She confessed that she made sure she practiced prior to stepping foot in the tent.
Jade said, “I was really lucky that week. I did practice because amongst my friends I'm known for being really bad at baking but I do try. I thought, if I’m going on Bake Off I need to at least know how to turn the oven on!”
She added, “When I won I honestly was gob smacked, I couldn't believe it. I love that show so much. That's right up there with the Brit Awards to be honest!”
The Little Mix girls Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have been nominated for Best Group at the 2021 BRIT Awards.
Jade said, “It’s such an iconic and prestigious ceremony. Right from being little, we’ve grown up watching the BRIT Awards. It’s a massive part of British culture and to be nominated is very cool.”
During their 10 years, the girls have previously won two BRIT Awards, British Video Of The Year for their hit ‘Woman Like Me’ in 2019 and British Single Of The Year for the anthem ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ in 2017 and have been nominated a further seven times.
This is Little Mix’s first awards nomination as a trio since Jesy Nelson announced in December 2020 that she would be leaving the band for good.
The ‘Confetti’ hitmakers have been nominated in the British Group category alongside The 1975, Bicep, Biffy Clyro and Young T & Bugsey.
If Little Mix took home the Best Group award, it would be the first time a girl group has received the title at the BRIT awards.
Jade said, “It would be nice if we could be the first to have that title and represent for the women in the music industry.”
