Swedish DJ Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, died this afternoon (20th April) in Oman, according to a statement from his representative.

The statement read, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

As the news comes in, many artists have been taking to Twitter to express their sadness including fellow DJs Calvin Harris, Marshmello and deadmau5.

Other pop stars have also taken to Twitter.

The popular DJ was well known for his songs, 'I Could Be The One', 'Hey Brother' and 'Lonely Together' with Rita Ora. He retired from live performances in 2016, with his last UK performance being at Creamfields over the last weekend in August. Last year he returned to the music scene releasing 'Lonely Together' in November.
