Dave gives inspiring speech and epic BRIT Awards performance

2022 looks set to be another big year for British rapper Dave, who took home the BRIT Award for Best Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act at The BRIT Awards 2022 with MasterCard. On top of this incredible achievement, Dave managed to contend with stars such as Adele and Anne-Marie to deliver one of the stand out performances of the night.

When Dave took to the stage to accept his award he delivered a heartfelt speech in which he gave a shoutout to fellow winners.

He said: "How you guys doing, are you guys alright? First of all I just want to thank God, first and foremost for this. For the last couple of years I want to thank God and dedicate everything to him. i appreciate all the love from the fans, I love my fans so much. Thank you guys."

Dave took the opportunity to thank his friends and family. He said: "I went past a college today on my way here to the arena and I saw some of the kids going to college and doing their thing and it took me back to a different time, and it feels like it was just yesterday that I was going to Richmond College, I went to St Marks with Jos, my boy Jos who raps, my producer who has worked with me on my album, I love you bro, my mum, all of my friends and family, I love you guys so much.

"I know I'm a difficult person and want to say thank you to all my friends to anyone that knows me for putting up with me."

Dave then went on to give a shout out to his fellow rappers including Little Simz, who took home the BRIT Award for Best New Artist earlier that night. He said: “I want to say thank you to all of the artists that are in the same field as me, the rappers that have suffered for years and years and years and years and year, that have broken down so many barriers in this industry that I'm in right now. And I think for you guys, it's only right that I keep on doing the same thing. Simz I’m so proud of you.

He ended the speech on a humble note, saying: “Listen, I'm just a guy who really loves music. To be here and share the stage with some of the most talented musicians in the world, in a country with some of the best rappers in my field, it's the best I can do so I want to say glory be to God, thank you so much for this guys."

On top of winning this award, Dave closed the night with an incredible performance of his song 'In the Fire' along with fellow rappers Fredo, Ghetts, Meekz, Giggs, and a gospel choir. Dave ended the performance by delivering an incredible guitar solo (we know, what a talented guy). Truly a performance for the ages.

This marks Dave's second BRIT Award after taking home the Award for Album of the Year in 2020 for his 2019 album 'Psychodrama.' At the same awards ceremony Dave performed a rousing rendition of his song 'Black' from the same album. This performance truly stole the show and meant there was a lot of pressure for Dave to deliver another iconic performance. Luckily his performance lived up to the hype.

Dave released his second album, 'We're All Alone in This Together' in 2021, for which he was again nominated for Album of the Year at this year's ceremony. Whilst he lost out on winning this award a second time, by taking home the BRIT award for Best Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act Dave's impact on the UK music scene has only been cemented further.
