Teenager charged with attempting to cause GBH after incident at Sheffield Academy

A boy is due to appear in court today charged with three counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm after an incident at an Academy in Sheffield this week.

Police were called to Birley Academy on Wednesday morning, two women in their 20's and a child suffered minor injuries.

The 17-year-old has been remanded in custody.

A Police statement said:

"A 17-year-old boy has been charged with three counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) following an incident at Birley Academy in Sheffield that left three people injured.

"The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested by officers on Wednesday morning (1 May) following reports of an incident involving a sharp object at the school in Birley Lane.

"Two women in their 20s and a child suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment.

"The 17-year-old, who has also been charged with possession of a blade or sharply pointed article on a school premises, has been remanded in custody.

"He is due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court 3rd May."
