To celebrate St. George's Day, on Friday morning Matt's MATT-er OF FACT on the Key 103 Breakfast Show is all about the legendary knight. So here's a bit more about our patron saint that was 'actually Turkish and never set foot on English soil'....

(Apparently we know very little!)

1) St George is also patron saint of Georgia,Malta, Ethiopia, Bulgaria, Malta, Portugal and Slovenia!

2) He sufferered from plague, skin diseases, leprosy, syphilis and herpes!

3) A fifth-century myth tells of him recovering three times after being killed, including once when he was chopped into many pieces and buried!

4) Because of doubts about his existence, the Pope in 1969 demoted Saint George to somebody to ‘optionally worship’!

5) He didn't actually save a maiden from a dragon - it turns out dragons don't exist!

We feel a lot more informed after that!

Listen to the Key 103 Breakfast Show with Gemma, Matt and Mike weekdays from 6am.
