Popular daytime shows This Morning and Loose Women were taken off air following a security threat outside of the ITV studios today (Thursday 10th March).

Although This Morning aired as normal at the start of the show, with presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, bosses were later forced to use pre-recorded footage following a commercial break after the incident.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police read: "At 11:14hrs on Thursday, 10 March, police were called to reports of a security alert at Wood Lane, White City. It was reported a suspicious item had been discovered.

"The area was evacuated as a precaution and White City and Wood Lane tube stations were temporarily closed. The incident was stood down shortly before 12:49hrs. An investigation is ongoing."

After Alison Hammond's interview with Rebel Wilson aired, Holly and Phillip were due to play Guess The Gadget live in the studio, but instead old footage of the pair tree hugging and a section on Britain's dullest men aired.

When Loose Women aired at 1.30pm, the show followed a similar format, with a message popping up on the screen reading: 'This is a pre recorded programme'.

The Metropolitan Police later revealed the issue in a tweet which read: 'Police dealt with a #SuspiciousPackage reported at 11:44hrs this morning at #WhiteCity. The incident was stood down at 12:49hrs. Cordons have now been lifted.' (sic)

This Morning host Phillip Schofield took to social media after the incident, sharing a selfie back inside his dressing room. He wrote: 'Back in my dressing room at This Morning after a security alert. All ok and thankfully a false alarm. Thank you to our team and met police for being amazing... I've been to the pub with everyone, now back to get my house keys!!'. (sic)

ITV's scheduled lunch time news at 1.30pm aired as normal.

Both This Morning and Loose Women are expected to return to ITV with live shows on Friday 11th March.
