Michael Owen admits he's glad Gemma 'didn't disgrace' family in Love Island
His daughter finished in second place
Former footballer Michael Owen kept pretty quiet whilst his daughter Gemma Owen was inside the Love Island villa, but after she returned home to the UK last week, he's not been shy in expressing his pride.
After finishing in second place behind winners Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti, Gemma and her partner Luca Bish appeared on Good Morning Britain this week, where they spoke about their experience in the villa.
Speaking about her dad's opinion on her appearance, Gemma told Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins: "He just says, 'So proud, you didn’t do anything to sort of disgrace us'. He’s happy. Everyone seems just buzzing which is nice."
After the final on Monday 1st August, former England player Michael took to his Instagram page to express his pride. Alongside a photo of the pair together, Michael wrote: 'What a special girl. So proud of you, @gemowen_1 Now get home as we’ve all missed you.' (sic)
Michael and his wife Louise also hosted a welcome home party for Gemma over the weekend, in the grounds of their stunning £4 million home, Lower Soughton Hall.
Gemma's closest family and friends were in attendance at the party, and the Owen family even purchased a yellow beanbag to make Gemma feel right at home.
Sharing photos from the big day, Michael wrote on Instagram: 'Welcome home @gemowen_1 it’s good to have you back!'. (sic)
