Christmas Day 2019 was about one thing, and one thing only - the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Reunion! After initially teasing it way back in May 2019, James Corden and Ruth Jones delivered an incredible hour-long special last December, much to the delight of fans up and down the country.

Although it may not have been completely perfect in everyone's eyes, it did become the most-watched programme since 2008 - which is a huge feat and a great testament to the writing and production of the show. P.s... SPOILERS AHEAD.

But after that gigantic cliffhanger at the end which saw Nessa actually get down on one knee and propose to Smithy (we still can't believe it), fans have been dying to know what his response was.

Did he say yes? If so, are they really going to live happily ever after with Neil the Baby? Would they have an actual normal wedding? If he said no, can they still be friends? SO many questions.

Thankfully, co-creators, writers and stars Ruth Jones and James Corden have put us out of our misery somewhat, teasing that a new series of the show could quite seriously be on the way.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, they said, "It’s mind-blowing that so many people watched our show – we still can’t get our heads around it, what a massive compliment. We are indebted to the BBC for their incredible support but most importantly to those viewers for watching.

"We just hope one day we can let them know what Smithy said next."

Well, we're all hoping that!

Director of BBC Content Charlotte Moore, added, "These incredible viewing figures demonstrate the power of British comedy and the love for Gavin and Stacey. I want to thank James and Ruth for this gem and like everyone I’m longing to find out what happens next."
