Demi Lovato rushed to hospital following suspected drug overdose

She has been open about her struggles with addiction in the past

Demi Lovato has been rushed to hospital after suffering what appears to be a heroin overdose, according to US news website TMZ. It's being reported that the 25 year-old singer was taken from her home in Hollywood Hills around noon yesterday (24th July).

The singer has battled alcohol and drug abuse in the past but had remained sober since her stint in rehab back over six years ago.

Her spokesperson said, "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.

"Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy."

US news outlet NBC report that a spokesperson for the star revealed that Demi was now "awake and with her family," and again warned that some of the information being reported is incorrect and requesting that Demi's family are allowed privacy.

Within minutes of the reports breaking, Demi's celeb friends and huge legion of fans began to send their messages of support on Twitter.

Demi recently released a song called 'Sober' in which she revealed that she had broken her six years sobriety from alcohol and drugs. The track, released on 21st June, includes lyrics such as, "Mama, I'm so sorry I'm not sober anymore, and daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor."

She also sings, "And I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again, I wanna be a role model, but I'm only human."

The chart-topping singer revealed a new tattoo on her hand at the same time the song was released - a delicate piece of ink on her little finger which read the word, "Free."
