It was actually Beyoncé's dad Matthew Knowles who first confirmed the birth of the twins.

Taking to Twitter to reveal his new grandchildren had been born, Matthew shared a Happy Birthday card which read, 'Happy birthday to the twins! Love, Granddad'. sic. Alongside the photo he wrote, 'They're here!'

Since then fans of the couple have been patiently waiting any updates from either Beyoncé or Jay-Z, but up until now both have stayed quiet on their social media accounts.

The 'Halo' singer did break her silence via a statement which was read out at the BET Awards last week.

It read, “Thank you, BET, for this award and your tremendous support of Lemonade,” the statement read. “This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honoring the past, and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve. . . . Thank you to my mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, for being my biggest, biggest teacher and consistent influence. Thank you to my entire family for so much love. To my team at Parkwood Entertainment, thank you. And thanks to all the fans, my Beyhive, for riding with me. I love and appreciate you. And to everyone at the show tonight, you all look so beautiful. And at home, thank you, and have a wonderful, wonderful night. From, Beyoncé.”

Beyoncé first announced she was pregnant back in February in the most spectacular way.

Wearing a veil whilst sitting on a bed of flowers, she captioned the picture, 'We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters.'

Amongst all of the baby news, Jay-Z dropped his brand new album '4:44' last week where he seemingly admitted to being unfaithful towards his wife.

Jay-Z responded to the 'Becky with the good hair' lyrics on Beyoncé 'Lemonade' album by writing a lyric which reads, 'Leave me alone, Becky. A man that don’t take care his family can’t be rich'.

On the album title track, Jay-Z also raps ‘If my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do. If they ain’t look at me the same, I would prolly die with all the shame. You did what with who? What good is a ménage à trois when you have a soulmate, you risked that for Blue?’.sic

Other lyrics include: 'I apologise, often womanise, took my child to be born, see through a woman's eyes. Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles. Took me too long for this song. I don't deserve you.' sic

Will we ever get a baby announcement?
