Fostering Hampshire Children

We're finding out what it's like to be a foster carer with Hampshire County Council.

Fostering is when a child, or young person, is cared for by someone who is not their parent or guardian. Becoming a foster carer offers you the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life.

It’s different from adoption, which permanently transfers all parental rights and responsibilities to you and your family. Instead, fostering provides a child or young person with a temporary place to stay, and they eventually either return home or go to live with family members.

Foster carers change lives every day. They’re caring, patient and provide stability to our children and young people. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are of all abilities who can offer children a fulfilling and active life.

We'll be hearing from foster carers and support workers who will tell you about the benefits of fostering and how the process works. Becoming a foster carer is easier than you might think. You have to be aged 21 and over & have a spare bedroom.
