Investigation after New Brighton house fire

Police are trying to trace a man who was seen leaving the area

An investigation has been launched after a house fire in New Brighton, in which a man was seen leaving shortly afterwards.

Fire crews were called to Windsor Street at 6.10am yesterday morning and extinguished a blaze that had started inside a property. Nobody was injured.

Police enquires have established that a, currently unidentified, male was seen leaving the address shortly before the fire was reported .

A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is underway to establish the cause of the fire.

CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out, and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Sean Cloherty said: “Thankfully no one was in the property at the time of the fire which has caused extensive damage to the property.

“The investigation is in the early stages as we carry out enquiries in the area. I am particularly keen to trace and speak with a male who was seen on Windsor Street approximately 4am and I would urge anyone with information as to his identity to contact us."
