What is her real name?

Cardi B's real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar. Her professional name is from the alcoholic drink Bacardi, as people would call her that as a nickname. How old is she?

Cardi B was born on 11th October 1992, so she is currently 31-years-old.

Where's she from?

Cardi B is from The Bronx in New York City, US. She grew up in the Highbridge area of the South Bronx, but spent most of her time at her paternal grandma's home in Washington Heights, which is where she says she got her "thick accent," she told Billboard. Cardi B's father is Dominican, and her mother is Trinidadian.

What school did Cardi go to?

In September 2022, Cardi B paid a surprise visit to her old school, IS 232 in the Bronx, New York, donating $100,000. The money was to be used towards after school activities, and the rapper shared a couple of videos from her telling the kids why she was there.

How did she become famous?

In 2015, Cardi B became a regular cast member on VH1's reality series Love & Hip Hop: New York, leaving in 2017 as her musical career had begun to take off.

After making her music debut on Shaggy's remix to his own song 'Boom Boom' with Popcaan, she signed to her first record label, Atlantic Records, in February 2017, and in June 2017 released her first commercial single, 'Bodak Yellow.'

In 2018, she released her debut album 'Invasion of Privacy', which flew to the Number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and landed the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2019. The win also bagged Cardi a Guinness World Record, with her being the first solo female artist to win that award at the Grammys.

In August 2020, Cardi released her hit single 'WAP' alongside Megan Thee Stallion. The track hit the Number 1 spot in the UK and US, and won multiple awards including the People's Choice Award for Best Collaboration of 2020.

Cardi B - 'Bodak Yellow'

Cardi B released her first single 'Bodak Yellow' on 16th June 2017, which spent 21 weeks in the UK chart and reached number 1 in the US. Although the track's name is a reference to rapper Kodak Black and Cardi borrows some of the tune from his song 'No Flockin', there's nothing else that links the two.

'Bodak Yellow' topped the US chart for three weeks, making Cardi B the second ever solo female artist to have a hip-hop number 1 after Lauryn Hill, 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' in 1998. The track has now also been certified diamond.

Cardi B - 'WAP'

Cardi caused major controversy when she teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 to release the track 'WAP', with many calling the song 'vulgar' due to its references and lyrics.

In an attempt to give a family friendly description of what the song is about, Cardi told The Project host, "A gynaecologist’s office. I just want girls to have fun, I’m talking (points to crotch) girl I’m talking about you."

The single is the lead single from Cardi's upcoming second album. The raunchy 'WAP' video even features a cameo appearance from Kylie Jenner. You can watch it on YouTube.

When is Cardi B releasing her new album?

At the beginning of 2020 Cardi confirmed her second studio album would be landing that year. However, like a lot of things in 2020, the production, and release, was delayed a little!

In August 2020, Cardi said: "I have other projects coming out that doesn't involve music, but when it comes to music I think I'm going to put out another single. I don't have my album ready yet. But even when I feel I have my album ready, I'm still debating when I should put out an album too."

Cardi teased us even more with what's to come with the release of her single 'Up', in February 2021. The track was the second single from her upcoming album and made it to the Top 20 in the UK Singles chart.

Despite giving birth to her second child on 4th September 2021, Cardi continued to releas some huge songs, including featuring on some brilliant collabs.

The 31-year-old previously spoke out about her plans to go 'away for a very long time' in order to work on her album, wanting to be able to promote and celebrate her work away from Zoom calls and on-screen interviews.

Updating fans on Instagram at the time, Cardi said: “I have a lot of jobs now. I’m in a lot of positions that require a lot of my time, and on top of that, I gotta put out this album next year. Not only do I got to put out an album, but I gotta record a movie: I’ve got to do so much s--t, y’all."

In an interview with Vogue Mexico and Latin America in September 2023, Cardi gave an update on her second album. She said: "I'm not going to release any more collaborations. I'm going to put out my next solo single. Right now, I'm working on the cover art and ideas for the next record because it's definitely coming up.

"Everyone always tells me I should put the record out now. They did when I released 'WAP' and when I released 'Up', but I always let them know I'm not going to wait long after all these singles. So stay tuned because it's coming out very soon."

We're sure it will be worth the wait!
