Storm Eunice continues to cause chaos across the UK and Ireland

Gale force winds, sleet and snow brought by Storm Eunice have started to cause major disruption across the UK and Ireland.

It brings a red weather warning for parts of England, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.

While a yellow weather warning for wind and snow is in place for Norther Ireland until 6pm today (Friday).

The Met Office has warned there may be travel delays, with the possibly of stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

There is also a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

All sailings between Rathlin and Ballycastle have been cancelled because of the forecast.

Meanwhile, a new yellow weather warning for ice has been issued.

It comes into force from 6pm today until 9am on Saturday, 19.

On Sunday a yellow weather warning for wind starts at midday and is due to end at the same time on Monday 21.

Meanwhile, Tens of thousands of homes in the Republic of Ireland are without power.

More than 55,000 homes, farms and businesses were without power on the island this morning as the storm tracked eastwards.

Schools and colleges across the ROI will also remain closed following advice from the Department of Education.

In nine counties, schools will be shut after Met Eireann issued a red wind warning for Cork, Kerry, Clare, and Waterford.

An orange snow warning has also been issued for several counties in the north and west, including Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, and Roscommon.

People are also being urged to postpone travel plans as emergency 50mph speed limits are in place in many areas across the UK.

No trains will operate in Wales for the entire day.

At Heathrow Airport, at least 65 flights - both departures and arrivals - were cancelled and a further 114 were delayed by more than 15 minutes, according to aviation data provider FlightStats by Cirium.
