Pensioner and wife tied up during Ballymoney burglary

A man in his 70s was struck on the head, as he and his wife were tied up during a burglary in Ballymoney on Monday night.

Police also said that there were reports of shots being fired in a neighbouring area shortly after that incident.

Three masked and armed men entered the couple's house on Donaghbrook Drive at around 9.40pm and struck the man on the head, before tying them to chairs with cable ties.

A large amount of money was stolen and the woman was able to break free of her ties and run to a neighbour's house.

Detectives in Coleraine said that reports of shots being fired were received in the Ballybrakes Road area at a similar time and have appealed for information on either incident.
