A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Newtownards in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A man in his 20s was discovered lying on the Bangor Road at around 5.30am.

Police had responded to reports that a man had been assaulted outside a house in the area.

He was treated at the scene by NI Ambulance staff but died a short time later.

Two 19-year-old men have been arrested and are being questioned by police on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Justin Galloway said: "This incident has resulted in the tragic death of a young man and I would ask anyone in the community who knows anything about the circumstances leading up to this incident, or saw or heard an altercation in the area of Bangor Road in Newtownards, to contact police and give us this information.
