Man charged with sexual offences against child

Police have charged a man following an incident in Ballymoney

Detectives investigating a report of sexual assault in the Ballymoney area on Thursday August 4th have charged an 18-year-old man with sexual activity by an adult with a child between 13 and 16-years-old.

He is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday August 8th.

As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Detective Chief Inspector Kerry Brennan said: “We received a report at 11.25pm on Friday August 5th that a young teenage girl had been sexually assaulted on Thursday 4th August, between 4pm and 6pm.

"The assault occurred close to a leisure centre premises, close to outdoor football pitches. We are keen to speak to anyone with any information, let us be the judge of importance of the information. All information will be treated with the upmost sensitivity.

“We are especially keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time this incident took place as it was still within daylight hours at the time mentioned to please contact 101 quoting reference number 2034 06/08/22.”
