Emergency services at scene of fire in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter

Paramedics and firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire in Belfast.

The ambulance service was called to Exchange Place in the Cathedral Quarter area around 5.30 on Friday evening.

It is not yet clear if there are any injuries.

The PSNI have advised motorists to avoid the Donegall, Waring and North Street areas of the city and drivers on the M3 are advised to exercise extreme caution due to thick smoke.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said:

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service received a call to a derelict building in Donegall Street, Belfast at 17.24 today.

"Currently we have eight appliances and an aerial appliance in attendance.

"The incident is still on-going at present.

"There is no risk to the public and we are continuing to investigate at the scene."
