Man hospitalised after liquid thrown in his face in Belfast

Police say injuries to his face and chest could be life altering

A man in his 20's has suffered injuries that could be life changing, after liquid was thrown in his face in Belfast yesterday afternoon.

Police say the victim was sitting in the Botanic Avenue area when he was approached by a man who threw the liquid and then ran off up a nearby street.

A 39 year old man who was arrested has since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Corrigan said “We received a report at around 2.45pm that a man was sitting in the area when he was approached by a male who threw a liquid onto his face before running off in the direction of Ireton Street.”

"The victim, aged in his 20s was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. At this stage he is believed to have sustained potentially life-altering injuries to his chest and face.”

"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this assault to get in touch with us by calling 101, and quoting reference number 947 of 07/04/21.”

"We would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at this time and who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage of this incident to make contact with police."
