Did you see this mysterious fireball in the sky over Co Down last night?

What would you do if you looked up to the sky and seen a bizarre streak of fire flying past your garden? Panic and scream?

No, of course not! You would run straight for your phone and start filming 🤣

One of our listeners from Banbridge sent us through a fascinating video of a mysterious fireball flying over Banbridge at around 9pm last night.

Clearer skies and the 'long stretch' in the evenings, means that it's easier to see shooting stars and meteors during the summer months.

And that's exactly what this is - the Perseid meteor shower

There could be as many as 100 meteors in an hour during a Perseid meteor shower.

According to Nasa, "Perseids are known for their fireballs. Fireballs are larger explosions of light and colour that can persist longer than an average meteor streak. This is due to the fact that fireballs originate from larger particles of cometary material."

Experts predict that this Thursday (August 12th) will be the best night to see more. The best time to watch is between midnight and early dawn.

The best way to catch a glimpse is to escape the city and head to the country, where there is a clear view of the horizon. The darker it is, the easier they will be to see.
