Excitement is building already for the return of Northern Ireland’s biggest continental Christmas market in the grounds of Belfast City Hall.

The gates will swing open once again from 20th November - 23rd December 2021.

Event Organisers, Market Place Europe, shared an update for entry for this year's event and Covid-19 requirements.

Last year was the first time in 15 years that the market wasn't allowed to run, Covid-19 regulations and lockdown restrictions prohibited the event from taking place.

Over the coming months, thousands are expected to visit the city’s ultimate festive experience over the 34 day event.

During the weekends when the market is expected to be busy, visitors will need to supply evidence of a Covid-19 vaccination or proof of a negative lateral flow test before being granted access.

A statement from the organisers reads: “Whilst the majority of restrictions have been lifted in Northern Ireland some regulations and guidance remain in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.

“Current guidance advises us to maintain, where possible, a one meter social distance within the market. Monday to Friday our visitor numbers allow for this to safely be accommodated without additional mitigation.

“At the weekends (or if the market exceeds numbers that allow for social distancing to be maintained), visitors will need to supply evidence of vaccination (such as a vaccination card), or take a Lateral Flow test before being granted access to the market. Lateral flow tests will be provided.

“In addition, footfall will be closely monitored and when nearing capacity, a queuing system will be put in place. There will be a number of hand sanitising stations throughout the market and visitors will be encouraged to wear masks and make payments using cards instead of cash where possible.”

When does the market open?

Belfast Christmas Market will open on Saturday 20th November from 12pm.

  • Monday – Wednesday (10am – 8pm)
  • Thursday – Saturday (10am – 10pm)
  • Sunday (12noon – 6pm)
