What first started out as a small ice cream counter at a family filling station in Monaghan has quickly grown into a sweet treat empire.

Mackles Ice Cream is a fun local business run by eight sisters - Jacqueline, Patrice, Donna, Carla, Kim, Leah, Andrea and Lily Mackle – each offering their own creative ideas and fun personalities to the brand.

We caught up with the ladies to get the 'inside scoop' on their exciting new venture.

“We started getting creative with our ice creams in 2018. In lockdown we stepped things up a bit, opening our Drive Thru at Silverstream Service Station in Monaghan. We posted a couple of TikTok videos, and it took off from there, people were travelling from all over to try our ice cream.”

Customers best describe Mackles Ice Cream as the ‘ultimate ice cream spot!’ Offering an endless list of toppings, sauces, ice cream options (including vegan and diary free) and milkshakes, there’s something for everyone on the menu.

With stores in Armagh, Tyrone, Monaghan, Donegal and soon Belfast, Mackles is the perfect ice cream/coffee date spot in NI.

Sharing a teaser pic on social media, the sisters have announced they are opening a bespoke store on the cobbled streets of Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.

“We have been searching for the perfect Belfast premises for quite some time, but when we came across the Hill Street Hatch we knew it was the one.”

“We will be serving our signature ice cream, coffees, milkshakes, cookies and brownies from the now pink hatch. We’re so grateful to all our customers and staff that have helped make this all possible. We can’t wait to hit Belfast soon!”

When will Mackles open in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter?

The pink hatch will open on Friday 8th June at 10am 🍦 👏
