The 64th Annual Grammy Awards, that were due to take place on 31st January, have been postponed due to ‘too many risks’ posed by COVID.

The Recording Academy and broadcaster CBS said in a statement: ‘After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual Grammy Awards Show.

‘The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.

‘Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks.’

The statement finished: 'We look forward to celebrating music's biggest night on a future date, which will be announced soon.'

The event is best known for being one of the best nights in the music calendar, with Taylor Swift becoming the first female artist to win the award for Album of the Year three times at the 2021 awards which were also held at a later date (14th March).

Beyoncé also made history as the woman with the most Grammy Awards in the ceremony’s history, overtaking country artist Alison Krauss with an astonishing 28 gongs.

The 2022 award nominees included Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. with eight nominations, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo followed with seven nominations each.

The show was to be hosted by Daily Show host Trevor Noah for the second year running.
